More solar planned for Taupō
An application to build a large solar farm at the southern end of Lake Taupō is still on the cards, says Meridian Energy Limited, despite it not being accepted into the first lot of fast-track projects.

Construction is underway on what will be New Zealand’s largest solar farm at Rangitaiki, east of Taupō.
Giant solar projects
Taupō’s landscape is dotted with hydro and geothermal mega-projects and now a giant solar farm is proposed for a site 35km west of the Great Lake and another closer to town.
