An all-female Taupō butchery team has come away with a bronze medal in the Great NZ Sausage Awards.

Heritage Meat owner Huw Taylor says they were “blown away” by the result.

“We knew there were well over 800 entries in the competition, so to come away with a medal, and the recognition, in our first year in business is incredible.”

It was a lamb, rosemary and garlic sausage that captured the attention of the judges, split between a technical panel, and tasting panel comprising of chefs and food writers.

“My team is young, but they have incredible attention to detail, work bloody hard, and take a huge amount of pride in their craft.

“I think we’ve the only butchery team in the country that is entirely female, and that’s something I’m incredibly proud of.”

“We’ve made a bit of a name for ourselves here in Taupō for our sausages, but the smiling faces of Jayme and Leila greeting our customers is just as important.”
