Police are trying to identify the rider of a trail bike following a serious crash on Monday afternoon that injured a Tauhara College student.

Taupō Police have confirmed they attended a crash involving “a vehicle and a pedestrian” on Taharepa Rd at about 3.15pm on May 11.

In a post on its Facebook page Tauhara College said one of its students was involved in a “serious traffic accident near the school.

“Emergency services attended and the student was taken to hospital for medical care,” the post says.

“Our thoughts are with the student and their whānau at this time. We also acknowledge the staff, students, and emergency personnel who responded with care and professionalism.

“Support and pastoral care will be available for students and staff affected by this traumatic incident.”

On May 12 Police released photos of two people on a blue and white dirt bike, saying they wanted to speak to them regarding the incident.

The rider was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt with white patterns, black trousers and what appears to be a black balaclava.

The passenger was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black track pants with white stripes but their face was pixelated.

“Police are making enquiries into the circumstances of this crash and would like to speak with the man in the … photo as we believe he can assist in our investigation.”

Anyone who recognized the rider, or had any information that could assist Police, are asked to contact 105 – either online or over the phone – and reference file number 260511/1479.

Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
