Sheep dog trials
Entry is free for spectators.
The Bayley’s Sheep Dog Trials are on this week and is set to be the largest sheep dog trials in New Zealand.
Just under 300 highly skilled sheep dogs will compete for the winner’s title and a place on the Bayley’s Sheep Dog Trials Honours Board.
Held indoor at the National Equestrian Centre, at Aratiatia, the trials will take place rain or shine.
The event runs from June 25-28 and entry is free for spectators.
Last year, the trials raised $30,000, for Greenlea Rescue Helicopter - a critical lifeline for remote and rural areas across the Central Plateau and Lakes region.
Event organiser David Schaw understands the rescue helicopters importance firsthand, having been rescued after an on-farm accident on his remote station.
In 2024 alone, the Greenlea Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to 90 rural or remote missions, responding to quad bike incidents, tractor incidents, animal-related incidents, medical emergencies and more.
