No Big Bang
Lake Taupo Rotary has confirmed the Guy Fawkes Big Bang Fireworks has been cancelled for the second year in a row.
Rotary president Noel Rodgers says they are still trying to secure enough sponsorship to run the event in future years.
He says the event provides much more than a fireworks display and supports various volunteer groups who help to run the event, as a fund raiser to support their own needs.
The event includes local food vendors, an outdoor movie screening and a spectacular light show before the fireworks display.
It is an affordable and safe alternative for families, rather than having to buy their own fireworks.
Lake Taupo Rotary also donates to the local SPCA which has its Taupō facility right next to the event at Owen Delany Park, “to assist with any inconveniences during the evening”.
The loss of the ‘Big Bang’ fireworks display means there will be no public fireworks display this year with the Taupō District Council announcing recently that it would not be holding its two displays on New Year’s Eve.
