Dropping into Taupō

Ryan Wood, Ronan Murphy and Louis Sharp celebrate after their skydive.

Some of the motor racing personalities in town for the Giltrap Group Historic GP took the chance to do some of the other adventure activities on offer in the town.

Greg Murphy, Riana Crehan, Will Davison, Ryan Wood, Wood's engineer Richard Harris, CTFROT star Louis Sharp and racer / broadcaster Ronan Murphy all took in some of the high octane, non-motorsport activities the region has to offer.

That included Skydiving from over 15,000 feet above Lake Taupō thanks to Taupō Tandem Skydiving, before taking on the Bungee Jump and Swing at the nearby AJ Hackett Bungy facility, over the Waikato River.

The massive event this weekend includes the second round of the Castrol Toyota Formula Regional Oceania Trophy, while 'Black Beauty', the A1 GP Team New Zealand racer, will complete demo laps.

The Royal New Zealand Air Force 'Black Falcons' were in the air on Saturday while other on track action included the Historic GP for Formula Atlantic vehicles, Heritage Touring Cars, HRVA Saloon Cars and Euro Allcomers grids.

Ryan Wood claimed one of the biggest wins of his career to date, claiming the Denny Hulme Memorial Trophy by taking victory in the feature race of Castrol Toyota Formula Regional Oceania at Taupō International Motorsport Park.

Wood started second but powered to an early lead and survived a mid-race Safety Car to claim victory in the feature race - backing up his win in Race one on Saturday.

Greg Murphy ponders his decision-making before take-off.

As a result, the Supercars star has charged from outside the top 10, into the top five at the half-way point of the CTFROT standings - still led by Ugo Ugochukwo.

Kaleb Ngatoa defended his Historic GP Trophy with a win in the feature race on Sunday afternoon.

Will Davison was a star of the show as he charged to fourth position in his first race in the Ralt Formula Atlantic usually driven by Greg Murphy.

The Giltrap Group Historic GP was a successful weekend with competitive racing and a strong crowd throughout the weekend.
