Anzac artists add the colour
The Taupō RSA has been running a colouring-in competition over the month of April, as part of the RNZRSA Poppy Appeal.
The Poppy Fund aids with essentials like food, medical costs, housing, and emergency support, says Taupō RSA secretary Phil Constable.
The Taupō RSA donated Poppies to each participating school so they could distribute them to their students while they learnt about the Anzacs. Each entry involved a gold coin donation to the fund.
There were about 150 entries in two age categories; 5-7 years and 8-10 years with prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
The place getters were as follows:
5-7 years: Kanon 1st, Waipahihi School, Tōrea 2nd, Mountview School, Jed 3rd, Hilltop School.
8-10 years: Dylan 1st, Hilltop School, Laila 2nd Hilltop School, Brennan 3rd, Hilltop School.
Lest We Forget
In memory of my father and those who fought beside him in WWI.
While we remember on ANZAC Day those who fought and died during the wars over 100 years ago let us not forget those who served beside them and returned home having been badly wounded both in body and mind, and bore the scars for the rest of their lives.
Most were only boys when they enlisted, not realising what was ahead of them.
They returned and lived on with the memories of comrades and friends who suffered the brutalities of war and the months and years away from loved ones.
