What’s On - August 27 onwards
New Zealand Blood Service will be holding multiple mobile drives at Great Lake Centre, 5 Story Place, Taupō over the upcoming months.
First up, we have scheduled a plasma drive from 31 August to 4 September, and we have appointments available on all days except 4 September.
Next, we will hold a blood drive from 13 to 16 October and there are plenty of appointments still available throughout that period.
Donating blood or plasma is a simple way to make a huge difference. Every blood donation can help up to three people, while plasma is used to create vital medicines for serious health conditions.
We encourage people to sign up by booking an appointment via our app or website or by calling 0800 GIVE BLOOD ahead of time. Our team can answer any questions and will also guide them through the donation process on the day.
Events
August 15 – September 21: Two new exhibitions at Taupō Museum bring together five artists working in very different ways, but all connected by a single, timeless material: wood. The Language of Wood features Taupō artists Angela Zajonskowski, Jodie Appleton, and Sally-Ann Davies, while Responses in Wood presents a solo exhibition by local artist Jan Ubels. Though separate shows, both explore the creative possibilities and stories held within timber.
September 4: Taupō Intermediate’s Room 24 is hosting a quiz night to raise funds for a cultural camp. Tables are $150 for a group of six which includes a light supper, table snacks and a drink. Taupō Choral: Taupō Choral is on the lookout for extra singers for its 50th Jubilee concert on November 15. If you are a past member, want to join or just want to be part of this special celebration, then you are invited to join them. Experience with singing in a choir is helpful but not necessary. Message us through our Facebook page or contact us on: taupochoralsociety@gmail.com. The Taupō Choral Solid Gold concert will include excerpts from Handel’s Messiah.

First Sunday of the Month: Ukulele Jamming/Strummers at the Cossie Club, 2-4pm. Don't play but love to sing? We have song books for you. Join us for a fun time singing music from 60's, 70's and 80's. All are welcome. Contact Cherry on 021 0250 6068
Second Monday of the Month: Taupō 60'S Up Movement meets at Taupō Bowling Club on Ferry Road. Come and join our group of men and women for companionship and listen to an interesting speaker while enjoying morning tea. We offer visits to places of interest, lunch and movie outings or you might like to join our ten-pin bowling team. Entry fee $5, Annual sub $30 for new members. Please contact Betty 07 376 9443
Every Saturday: Two Mile Bay, 8am. Taupō Parkrun is a free, 5km community run that people can walk, jog, or run. People can also volunteer to help or just come and support those taking part. It is a 2.5km out-and-back course along the lakefront, starting and finishing at Two Mile Bay Reserve.
Second Saturday of the month: The Community Marketplace. Shop, swap and sell. Taupō’s local market for second-hand finds, slow fashion, produce, crafts and upcycled goods. Waipahihi Community Hall, 96 Richmond Ave, 10am-2pm.
Every Monday: Seniors’ Social Connection Group is at Rotary House from 10am–1.30pm. A social hub for seniors who play board games, card games, Housie, read, knit, do puzzles etc. Cost is $10 and includes morning tea and a light finger food lunch.
Every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 10am-2pm: Become a Member at Active Arts Taupō. Love painting, pottery or mixed media? Join our vibrant creative community at 5 Redoubt Road. Connect, create and grow alongside local artists.
Every 2nd Tuesday: DNA Support Group meetings, 10am to midday at Taupō Library.
Every Thursday: Lake Taupō Genealogy. FREE family research at Taupō Library, 9.30am to midday.
Every Thursday: The Taupō Scottish Country Dance Group meets every Thursday at St Paul’s Uniting Church from 1.45–3.45pm. First session free, then $5. Meet people, maintain fitness, dance to enjoy Scottish music. Contact Margaret on greenmargaret26@gmail.com or 021 142 7590.
Sundays: Market Central, 9am-1pm Northcroft Reserve on Taupō’s beautiful lakefront. Live music, huge variety of food, 90+ stalls, games for the kids
Sundays: If you love to sing, have free time to take part in weekday concerts and can stay on your feet for a 30-minute performance, the AA65 choir would love you to join our group. We practice at 4pm every Sunday at Rotary House and sing at different venues every second month.
October 17: Wairakei Primary School Annual Pet Day
Join us for a fun-filled morning celebrating our community’s favorite furry, feathered, and four-legged friends at the Wairakei Primary School Annual Pet Day!
Time: 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM (Midday) Saturday.
Location: Wairakei Primary School Grounds
Come along to support the students as they showcase their beloved pets, demonstrate responsible animal care, and compete in a variety of exciting categories. From traditional farm animals to household pets, there’s plenty to see and enjoy for the whole family.

September 19: Tūrangi Garden Club Flower Show, 11am-3pm at Senior Citizens Hall, Tūrangi. $2 cash entry plus a charge for afternoon tea. Plants for sale. Entries for the
show are open to everyone (for more info and a copy of categories, email turangigardenclub@gmail.com. Judging Saturday morning. Trophies presented to winners around 2.30pm. Everyone’s welcome to join us to view the colourful arrival of spring.
September 26:
New Zealand’s National Guinea Pig Show, at the Great Lake Centre, Taupō. Gold coin donation. Everyone is welcome! Come along and watch the finest guinea pigs from across New Zealand compete for the prestigious title of Best in Show!
