The people-first plumbers

The McBeth Plumbing and Gas team celebrate their success at the recent regional awards.

The Volcanic Plateau Master Plumbers Awards in Rotorua earlier this month saw success for Taupō.

Hosted by comedian Ben Hurley, the evening recognises skill, leadership, and commitment of local tradespeople, apprentices, and businesses.

McBeth Plumbing & Gas had a standout night, taking home several major awards, including Master Plumber of the Year 2025.

Celebrating more than 40 years in business, the company was recognised for its technical excellence, innovation, and contribution to the community.

Judges recognised a people-first culture, commitment to training, and initiatives like lifestyle hours and wellbeing programmes

Support for the community was also key, including involvement in the Lake Taupō Hospice “Let’s Build”, the annual McBeths Merry Mission and an off-grid shower project.

Team members Theo Petrides, Kevin Pitt, and Nina Andrews were also individually honoured.

Theo received the award for Most Outstanding Tradesperson – Non-Certifying for his expertise in gas fitting and hydronic heating, strong mentorship, and dedication to his plumbing apprenticeship.

Kevin earned the Contribution to the Industry award for his high standards, mentoring, and commitment to compliance and quality.

Nina was recognised in the Woman in Plumbing category for her leadership, innovation, and role in shaping McBeth’s strong workplace culture and business growth.

Advanced Plumbing Taupō also saw major success, with Logan Hirst and Simon Wallace both taking home top honours.

Logan was named Most Outstanding Tradesperson – Certifying, recognised for his leadership as residential foreman and commitment to quality and team development.

Simon earned Training Leader of the Year for his mentorship and the positive impact he’s had on apprentices learning the trade.

The region’s rising talent was also celebrated, with Tukairangi Pitiroi of Lake Wide Plumbing named Apprentice of the Year 2025.

Tukairangi has become a respected young tradesman known for his pride in the job, leadership on housing projects, and commitment to mentoring others — continuing the legacy of his grandfather, who first introduced him to the trade.
