The artists involved in the latest exhibition at Taupō Museum and Art Gallery.

October1 - November 15: Outdoor clothing company Stoney Creek – through the Our Backyard Trust - has teamed up with the Sika Foundation and Helisika to organise the Sika Hind Hunt, running from October 1 - November 15. The contest has a range of categories for hunters who shoot hinds, with prize packages of up to $8500, and a total prize pool of $80,000. There are also non-hunting categories including a ‘Best Live Stag Photo’ contest and activities for children, like a colouring contest and spot prizes. The event will culminate in a community barbecue and prize giving event on November 22.

October 25: Market Central has moved to Riverside Park and is on Saturday this week because the big annual Kinloch Market is on Sunday. Market Central is a vibrant and exciting market. It is open from 9am-1pm, with many talented creators, makers, food vendors, growers and entertainers.

October 25-26: NZ Doctors Piano Quintet Hospice Fundraiser at the Great Lake Centre. Unlike a traditional concert, the format is an open rehearsal. The public is invited to come along at any time, stay for as little or as long as they like, and enjoy the process of music being made. Saturday, 10am–12 pm, and 2pm–4pm and Sunday, 10am–12noon. On Sunday at 1pm, the musicians will perform a full “play through” of their rehearsed work – an informal concert that brings the weekend together. The ensemble is made up of five doctors: Piano – Dr Louise Webster, Violin – Dr Allister Bush, Viola – Dr Anthony Doyle, Cello – Dr Peter Fleischl, Double Bass – Dr Tim Wilkinson. The group will be rehearsing and performing Schubert’s Piano Quintet, “The Trout”, a lively and much-loved piece of chamber music.  Entry is by gold coin donation and proceeds go to Lake Taupō Hospice.

October 25-27: Following a very successful Art Expo at Easter, Taupō Art Connection again offers the opportunity to view and chat with artists at its next expo on Labour Weekend 2025. The Expo will be at Waiora House from 9am-4pm each day and will feature new work from local artists. All work is for sale and there is something for everyone.

October 25-27: Graffiato: Taupō Street Art Festival is the longest running street art festival of its kind in New Zealand, held annually in Taupō over Labour weekend since 2011. A combination of well-known artists, along with local emerging talent, paint multiple walls over the three-day Labour weekend. The murals liven up and bring beauty to the back alleyways and streets of the town centre, while engaging the local community with an ever-growing art gallery in the CBD.

October 25 – December 8: Taupō Museum is proud to present Beyond the Surface: Taupō Harbour Reimagined, a new exhibition by the Taupō Mixed Media Artists, opening in the Main Gallery. Taupō artists reimagine the waterfront.

October 26: The Kinloch Market is a massive, vibrant, annual market operating every year on the Sunday of Labour weekend, 9am-4pm at the Kinloch Domain. Join us this year for over 200 fantastic art and crafts stalls, an abundance of street food, talented local musicians will rock the stage, bouncy castles (FREE), horse riding, a playground and loads of entertainment for the kids. Adults $5 and children are free.

October 29: 'Hangmen' by Martin McDonagh. Thriller comedy at Centre Stage October 29 – November 8. What does an English Hangman do when he hears that capital punishment has been abolished. Tickets $35 inc dessert on sale trybooking.com

November 9: The Tūrangi Garden Club is hosting its biennial garden ramble on Sunday, November 9 where 10 gardens will be on show in Tūrangi, Motuoapa and Oruatua on the eastern and southern shores of Lake Taupō. The strength of this year’s ramble is in showing how quickly a new section can be turned into a beautiful and productive space. The owners of these suburban gardens have used clever landscaping techniques, plant choices and labour saving ideas to produce gardens that will delight everyone.
