Rolling into the summer bowling season

Mayor John Funnell delivers the first bowl for the 2026-2027 Season with Life Member Jack Giddy standing behind him.

Bowls Taupō’s summer season is underway.

Although the weather was not exactly summery for the opening on September 20, that didn’t stop a large group of members from turning out.

Mayor John Funnell and Life Member Jack Giddy raised the flag and delivered the first bowl of the summer season.

Board member and officer Jim Fitzsimons says the club is looking forward to a successful 2026-2027 summer season using the magnificent facilities overlooking the Lake on Ferry Road.

There are Club Day’s four days a week plus the popular Community Bowls tournaments for non-bowlers over February and November each year.

Bowls Taupō also welcomes non-bowlers who want to give it a go with bowls equipment, bowls & coaching available.

There is also an open invitation to all community and/or business groups to use the facility for their special social leisure activities.

Jim says the club caters for both the casual bowler who is looking for the not so serious leisure games plus those who want to be involved in Club championships which lead to regional and NZ titles.

Bowls Taupō runs four popular competitive Open tournaments each season, with bowlers from throughout the country invited.

The Taupo RSA is also with Bowls Taupo at Ferry Road and members of both organisations enjoy the facilities together.
