Out of the shower and into the choir
The Taupō Choral Society.
Do you sing in the shower, burst into song when your favourite music plays or love to sing, anywhere, any time? Then the Taupō Choral Society needs you.
The society is looking for singers to join it for the upcoming concert, Taupō’s Got Talent.
Held on August 10, it will be a showcase of choir and solo performances, featuring young and upcoming local soloists.
Society member Sharon Drinnan says the choir will perform renditions of songs like The Circle of Life, Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah, and You’ll Never Walk Alone.
She says singing in a choir is an excellent way to enjoy singing and to learn what basic vocal classification you are (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass), and how those classifications work together harmoniously.
She says people will become familiar with basic music notation and practice following a conductor.
“But most importantly, learn the joy of creating a sound together with the wonderful dynamic of being in a group.”
The society has been operating for 49 years and has performed many concerts in that time and has even had music specifically written for them. They hold three concerts per year, and on occasions, unite with other choirs to perform.
Rehearsals are on Wednesday, 7.15- 9.00pm, at St Pauls Church on Rifle Range Road.
A small membership fee is charged which assists in covering hall and music costs. For more information people can find the society on Facebook or they can email taupochoralsociety@gmail.com
