Golf day a test of endurance

Alyson Bowker, of the Cancer Society, is excited to bring this unique golf challenge to Taupō Golf Club.

Golfers and novices alike are invited to step up - or swing out - for a great cause at the Cancer Society’s Longest Day Golf Tournament, on Sunday November 30 at Taupō Golf Club.

Participants can choose from a one-day golf challenge of 18 or 36 holes or really test their stamina with 72, while fundraising for the Cancer Society’s local services.

To keep spirits high, there will be free breakfast, spot prizes, plus round and hole competitions throughout the day thanks to a number of sponsors.

Taupō Golf Club is hosting the event, offering players the perfect setting to take on the challenge while enjoying the camaraderie of fellow golfers.

“We’re excited to welcome players for a day that’s about more than just golf,” said John Lewis of Taupō Golf Club.

“Our members are passionate about supporting local causes, and this event is a great chance to combine our love of the sport with raising funds for the Cancer Society’s incredible work.”

Landmark Homes is one of the sponsors, helping make the event possible.

“Landmark Homes is honoured to back the Cancer Society through the Longest Day Golf Tournament, standing alongside a cause that impacts so many New Zealanders,” says Katie Kelsall, spokesperson for Landmark Homes.

For many participants, the event holds personal meaning.

“As a cancer survivor and now a member of the Taupo Golf Club, I see this tournament as a fantastic opportunity to be able to participate and be a part of a great fundraising event going to a society that any one of us may need at some stage,” says Taupō resident Steve Bell.

Cancer Society Waikato/Bay of Plenty spokesperson, Alyson Bowker, says the Longest Day Golf Tournament is about more than just sport.

“It’s about community – coming together to support those who are going through one of the toughest times of their lives. The money raised here stays in our region, helping fund free services like transport to treatment and our Cancer Society’s Lions Lodge which provides a home away from home for cancer patients from across the Waikato and Bay of Plenty.”

The Cancer Society is encouraging golfers of all skill levels to take part, whether as individuals or teams.
