Dressed for success
Taupō AFC players look sharp in their new blue uniforms.
The Taupō Association Football Club has been given $10,000 for new uniforms.
The New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT), which distributes funds from gaming machines, has awarded the grant to fund both junior and senior uniforms.
Taupō AFC club president Greg Willars says the support will help keep football accessible without adding extra cost to families.
The club has more than 650 members and fields multiple teams across junior, federation, and senior grades.
Junior player Finn Westerman says the support for football kits means everyone gets the same chance to play, no matter their situation.
“It makes our team stronger because no one gets left out.”
Cherie Day is a senior and junior coach, and the club secretary says the grant is a “great step forward” for the club.
“It’s been fantastic to see our federation players take the field with pride in their new kit, creating a clear connection with our senior side.”
Junior player Travis Day says it feels “pretty cool” running out in kit that matches the seniors.
NZCT general manager of grants, marketing and communications Ben Hodges says cost should not be a barrier to young people participating in sport.
“NZCT can fund this community good thanks to the fundraising partnership we share with the Lucky Lizard via their host responsible gaming lounge.”
