Crash causes road closure at Tauranga-Taupō

The road between Taupō and Tūrangi is now open following a serious crash earlier today.

Emergency services responded to a crash involving two vehicles on State Highway 1 at the Tauranga-Taupō bridge between Heuheu Parade and Hingapo Road.

A Police spokesperson says they were called to the scene about 11.25am.

“At this stage six people are reported to have suffered moderate to serious injuries.

The road was blocked in both directions for several hours with motorists advised to delay travel and avoid the area.

The road had reopened by about 2.30pm.
