An invitation to join the 47th running of the Lake Taupō Cycle Challenge.

Excitement is building around Lake Taupō in the lead up to the 47th annual Lake Taupō Cycle Challenge. Riders, enthusiasts and supporters will be gathering, ready for the big day Saturday 29th November.

From humble beginnings over four decades ago (in 1977 and with only 26 participants!) the event has grown into New Zealand’s most iconic and one of the largest cycling events, drawing in over 3,000 competitors from across New Zealand and the globe.

This year an exciting new event, the Great Lake 100, has been added to the lineup. Designed for riders looking for that perfect middle ground ride - not as demanding as the Shimano Round the Lake, but longer than the Independent Traffic Control Length of the Lake. This epic 100km road event offers a manageable challenge along with some incredible views of the Great Lake.

The 2025 Lake Taupō Cycle Challenge ambassadors will be lining up on their start lines ready for the challenge. Taking on the impressive endurance of the Shimano Round the Lake is Olympian Bryony Botha, competing for the fifth time. In the past few months, Bryony has travelled to the USA and Chile, competing as part of cycling team ‘Fearless Femme Racing’. Now back in New Zealand, she heads to Taupō for The Lake Taupō Cycle Challenge. Bryony is joined by other ambassadors: well-known author, journo and commentator Jon Bridges and Paralympian Nick Blincoe, both riding the Shimano Round the Lake; and, taking on the epic twists, turns and thrills of the epic Tineli Huka Hundy, repping the eBikers, is Taupō local Libby O’Brien.

Following in the footsteps of last year’s event, the start and finish lines will be on Tongariro Street, bringing the action to the heart of the CBD, and the Event Village will be located on Tongariro North Domain. Riders and supporters alike can get involved in the festivities, starting with New Zealand’s largest cycling expo, taking place on Friday 28th November at the Great Lake Centre. Featuring brands such as: Shimano, Tineli, Suzuki, Winspace, Ride Holidays, Harraways, and more.

Whether you’re taking part, cheering from the sidelines or enjoying the buzzing atmosphere of the Event Village; no matter what age or stage, there’s something for everyone. There’s even a special GJ Gardener Kids Pedal Power Ride just for the little ones, which will be open for riding fun on Saturday afternoon. The Lake Taupō Cycle Challenge’s 47th year is set to be a memorable one for all.

It’s not too late to be a part of this exhilarating event - there is still time to register! Offering an impressive array of categories and course lengths catering to all abilities – from sealed roads to gravel and mountain biking – there's an event suited for everyone, from the young to the seasoned cyclist and the enthusiastic supporter. Online registrations are open until Wednesday 26 November, with in-person registrations available at the Great Lake Centre on Friday 28th November, between 12pm - 8pm.

Kim Manunui

Hi, I’m Kim and I work with a great team to help individuals, as well as small and not so small businesses get their message, product and services to the world using digital media and creating wonderful websites that don’t cost the earth.

I was born in Canada, and grew up around Vancouver and the mountains of British Columbia. My love of pristine environments led me to New Zealand and eventually to the mountains, lakes and rivers of the central North Island which is home. My family’s heritage is here, and it’s from here that Korio traverses the planet.

The digital world is never static and neither are we.

And I say ‘we’ because I work with an awesome group of talented people who I gather together as required to complete a project.  Whatever your business, not-for-profit or individual needs are we gather the best team to get the job done.

Collaboratively we are creative, share sustainable values and work hard for great outcomes because that’s the buzz of satisfaction that drives us.

If you have an audience and market to reach, we can make that happen. Creative design, words that work and smart behind the scenes stuff that cuts through the online noise. We’ll design your website and then build it. We’ll manage the content as well as all your hosting needs. We can handle your online advertising so you get noticed,
and we’ll manage your social media presence so you get the clicks, likes and engagement to grow your business. All within the budget you set, because none of this needs to cost the earth.  And the job doesn’t stop when your website goes live. We are your virtual business partner.
