A trip I’ll never forget

At just 17 years old, I had the incredible opportunity to represent New Zealand on tour in South Africa with the New Zealand Ladies Polocrosse team (in June).

It was an experience I’ll never forget, and one that I’ll be proud of and cherish for the rest of my life.
Not only did we get to play against one of the strongest polocrosse nations in the world, but we also made history by becoming the first New Zealand Ladies team to beat South Africa on their home soil.
To be part of a team that achieved something so special is something I’ll always remember.
The tour was about so much more than the results. I was lucky enough to be surrounded by such a talented, funny and loving group of ladies, who I would consider to be my sisters.
Every day spent together was full of fun, laughter, dedication and support which helped push each other to be the best versions of ourselves! To be relentless! We were there for each other through the highs and lows and created a sisterhood that will last a lifetime.
Looking back, I think that’s one of the things I’ll treasure the most.
We were also incredibly lucky to have such a motivated and supportive coach. Our Coach believed in every one of us and brought out the best in the team.
His leadership, encouragement, dedication and passion for the game helped create an environment where we could all play with confidence and enjoy every moment of the tour.
Travelling to South Africa was an experience in itself. Playing the sport I love while exploring another country, meeting new people and learning about a different culture made the trip even more special.
I was constantly reminded of how lucky I am to be able to play polocrosse and represent my country.
Being the youngest on the team by a few years and wearing the silver fern was something I had dreamed about for a long time. To have that dream become a reality, and to come home knowing we had made history, is something that still doesn’t feel real.
I’m so grateful to everyone who helped make this opportunity possible—The Gary Ramsay Charitable Trust, The Taupō District Council, my family, coaches, teammates, friends and everyone who supported me along the way. This tour has given me memories I’ll carry with me forever!
Representing New Zealand, making history, and sharing it all with such an incredible group of people truly made this the experience of a lifetime.
On September 11-13th, the New Zealand U21 Polocrosse team will be playing in Moonyoonooka, Western Australia! This team consists of four boys and four girls, which I am very fortunate to be part of.
